Plunger Rings for zinc die castingPlunger Ring Diagram

GENERAL INFORMATION
420 Stainless Steel is specifically engineered for Zinc die casting machines. Our rings are made from special mill runs to Superior's exacting specifications, which ensures a dense fine grain structure, eliminating porosity, brittle hard spots, and soft areas.

It provides the ultimate for strength, hardness, and ductility, as well as heat and corrosion resistance. It is excellent for low coeffeciency of friction, compatability with mating material, and high modulus of elasticity.

The uniform tension and resiliencyof our rings, combined with their long wearing, high heat resistance characteristics, allow for a complete consistant compression load to be placed on our rings. Sleeve and gooseneck replacement is greatly reduced, ring life extended up to ten times over cast alloy rings.

MAJOR PROBLEMS OF RING LIFE
The major cause of ring failure is the high heat required in die cast manufacturing. 420 Stainless is a high heat resistant steel and will improve ring life eight to ten times more effeciently than cast alloy rings.

GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
Superior rings are manufactured to precision tolerances and are ready for installation.

Recommended groove width is +.010 over the width of your required size. If deterioration of plunger groove width occures from extended use, width can be increased an additional .030 and still use your existing standard ring size.

Superior Stainless Steel rings are uniformly heat treated to RC 48-55 hardness.

Superior will manufacture any ring, regardless of size or material. to your requirements and specifications, such as H-13 and cast steel alloy. Superior standard rings are Step cut; for those who prefer Angle or Butt cut, we will quote to your requirements.
